Christian or disciple? Before ascending into heaven, Jesus said to his disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...” (Mt. 28:19). The word Christian is used three times in the Bible. In two of those instances, it carries a negative connotation. Only recently has the word carried a positive meaning. On the other hand, the word disciple is used 269 times in the New Testament and 238 times in the Gospels alone. Is Jesus interested in producing disciples or Christians?
